Taipei, Taiwan – January 8, 2003 – C-Media Electronics, Inc. announced that its latest
engineering development, the world’s firstsoftware-based real-time Dolby Digital 5.1 encoder
for the CMI9739 6CH AC97 CODEC, has obtained a certification from Dolby Laboratories.

This achievement, which solidifies their expertise in audio solutions, allows C-Media to provide
its customers with a fully complete 3D audio solution, including real-time Dolby Digital 5.1 encoder,
and C-Media’s patented Xear 3D(TM) Sound and SPEAKER SHIFTER(TM) technologies.

純粹個人推測, 從這個Press Release的意思來說, 似乎CMI9738及CMI8738等或許都可以籍由得到Dolby Labs的認證, 及驅動程式上的更新而同樣得到軟體式Dolby Digital 5.1的編碼功能. 若果倘若日後真有其事, 就真的是C-Media晶片用家的喜訊了 這樣就有機會得到跟NVIDIA SoundStorm相同的即時Dolby Digital 5.1編碼能力, 但當然是SoundStorm採用的硬體方式在效能上會比較好.
